Last weekend I completed my 4th century (100 mile ride). Yay! I was up with the sun. The day started out slightly below freezing and cloudy, but warmed up to 55 and sunny. How do you dress for this? ALL the layers!
I took the long way to the start of the Music City Cycling Lickety Split ride. Lickety Split is a new 30 mile ride for anyone in Nashville who wants to come. It’s weekly on Saturdays, so come join us if you’re local or visiting. Yay! Here’s a picture from when I was with the guys.
I split off from them at the Natchez Trace Parkway to finish up my century. Natchez Trace is highly recommended. There aren’t shoulders but no commercial traffic is allowed so the only people who use it are recreational drivers and motorcyclists. Since there are so many cyclists around, all the motorists are used to it and give you plenty of room. There’s even bicycle only campgrounds if you wanna do the bike camp thing. Bring lots of water and food though because refuel options are few and far between.
I got off at Fly, TN and made my way up to Leiper’s Fork for some food and then headed toward home. Something surprising was how strong and not-falling-apart I felt for pretty much the entire ride. Even at the end I felt like I could definitely keep going. I still rewarded myself with a chocolate croissant in a pink bubble bath upon home-arrival. Damn it was good.
I figured if a +7000 ft century isn’t killing me, it’s time to ramp up the game, so I’ve just signed up for my first brevet. It’s 200k (124 miles) and I’m pretty stoked! I usually map out all my own routes and ride by myself, so it’ll be if nothing else interesting to meet some other people. I hope they are all old because I like old people a lot, especially crotchety grumpy old men. Based on the RUSA demographics, I’ll probably be in luck! I make up a full 10% of females aged 25-29 in the country. Only 9 others! If you know who they are, have em contact me because I wanna meet these 9 other girls-my-age who are out killin it with the old dudes.
Wish me luck on the brevet! Woo!
